Building Permit Application

Overview

At the Town of High Level, the Building Permit application is included on the Development Permit application. A building permit is required for most major construction projects including, but not limited to:

  • New buildings
  • Additions
  • Renovations
  • Alterations
  • Repairs
  • Demolitions
  • Relocations
  • Change of use to an existing building

The Safety Codes Act requires that all contractors and homeowners in Alberta obtain permits prior to starting any work on buildings covered in the current edition of the Alberta Building Code. 

Requirements

To process the application, the following items are required:

  • Two complete sets of drawings
  • Buildings with preserved wood foundations must include engineered drawings
  • Drawings from the roof truss designer for the pre-engineered roof trusses
  • Completed Building Permit application including:
    • Owner’s name, address and phone number
    • Contractor’s name, address and phone number
    • Engineer/architect name, address and phone number
  • Construction address
  • Construction value
  • Application fee

Building Permit Fees

  • $6 per $1000 of construction value.
  • Mobile Homes $100
  • Demolition Permits $0.50 per square meter of the building area minimum fee $75
  • Relocation Permits $100
  • Fuel Burning Appliances $50
  • Mobile camps $100 per unit
