Financial and Organizational Impacts

Financial

Once the annexation is complete, the Town of High Level will become responsible for the municipal infrastructure within the annexation area. That infrastructure primarily involves the roads and the water and sewer systems. The Town and the Province currently own and operate portions of the water and sewer system so most of the increased cost will be for road maintenance within the annexation area.

The Town estimates the increased operating costs at approximately $40,000 per year.

The increased operating costs will be offset by the property taxes and grants in lieu of taxes the Town will receive from the annexed properties.

Organizational

The Town of High Level does not anticipate any organizational changes as the Town currently operates the High Level Airport, manages the airport land leases, and owns and operates the existing wastewater sewage lagoon located east of the Town's current municipal boundary.
