Dwyer resigns from Council

DwyerRobyn Dwyer has resigned from High Level Council.

Dwyer resigned from Council effective July 11, 2022, due to her moving out of the community. Council accepted the resignation during their regular meeting on Aug. 3, 2022.

“We would like to thank Robyn for answering the call to serve the community in public office,” said Mayor Crystal McAteer. “Her passion for the community will be greatly missed, and her relocation is a loss to our community.”

Dwyer was elected during the 2021 Municipal Election. She was an active member of High Level’s healthcare community and instrumental in the Town’s local cadets program. She was tireless in her efforts supporting veterans and related programming in the area.

This support included her involvement in the No Stone Left Alone Campaign – ensuring deceased veterans in the area continue to be honoured on Remembrance Day – as well as the Poppy Campaign and Banners of Remembrance programs.

Dwyer served on a number of committees with distinction, including:

  • Banner of Remembrance Committee
  • Movie and Film Industry Task Force
  • Northwest Alberta Regional Emergency Advisory Committee
  • High Level Municipal Library Board
  • High Level Transportation Society (Alternate)
  • Mackenzie Regional Charity Golf Committee
  • Mackenzie Regional Waste Management Commission
  • Peace Library Systems (PLS) (Alternate)

Council expressed their gratitude and appreciation for Dwyer’s dedication and commitment to the Town of High Level and wish her all the best with her recent relocation back to the east coast.

A by-election will now be held to fill the vacated seat on Council, as legislated by the Municipal Government Act. At their regular meeting on Aug. 3, Council instructed Administration to proceed with the following dates:

Nomination Deadline – Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at noon.

Advanced Voting – Friday, October 7, 2022 (1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.)

Election Day – Wednesday, October 12, 2022 (10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.)
