Town of High Level assisting evacuees from Rainbow Lake

The Town of High Level is preparing to receive as many as 500 evacuees from Rainbow Lake following a mandatory evacuation order for that community earlier today.

Rainbow Lake residents will be registering at the Curling Rink entrance of the High Level Sports Complex, located at 10101 105 Avenue in High Level. Fox Lake evacuees are currently staying in the arena portion of the building and Rainbow Lake residents will be provided space in the curling rink.

We are currently working on providing space for Rainbow Lake residents who are travelling with their holiday trailers. All Rainbow Lake evacuees coming to High Level are asked to register at the curling rink in the Sports Complex.

Donations are not being requested at this time. Please do not bring donations to the arena. Instead, please do what High Level residents are best at – making our guests feel welcome in the community while we ensure they are safe and cared for during their emergency.

A fire ban and Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction is in effect in the Town of High Level and in the High Level Forest Area due to continuing hot, dry, conditions.

Alberta Wildfire has upgraded the wildfire danger to “Extreme” in the High Level Forest Area.

Please monitor official channels, such as the Town of High Level social media pages or Alberta Wildfire website, for updates.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the fire at this time.
