Town of High Level preparing to assist Garden River

The Town of High Level is preparing to receive between 250-300 evacuees from Garden River as that community is currently under an evacuation alert and its residents are preparing to leave on short notice.

Should an evacuation from that community be required, Garden River residents coming to High Level will be registering at the High Level Sports Complex located at 10101 105 Avenue in High Level. The facility is currently housing residents from Fox Lake as well as Rainbow Lake due to evacuations in those communities as well.

While community outpouring for donations is welcome and deeply appreciated, we continue to ask the community not to bring their donations to the Arena. Instead, please take donations to the Old RCMP building located at 10010 100 Avenue (Main Street). The facility is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

A fire ban and Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction is in effect in the Town of High Level and in the High Level Forest Area due to continuing hot, dry, conditions.

Alberta Wildfire has upgraded the wildfire danger to “Extreme” in the High Level Forest Area.

Please monitor official channels, such as the Town of High Level social media pages or Alberta Wildfire website, for updates. The Little Red River Cree Nation also has an active Facebook page for information from LRRCN leadership.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by wildfires at this time.
