Town of High Level assisting evacuees from Chateh

The Town of High Level is currently assisting with evacuees from Chateh as that community is under a mandatory evacuation order due to wildfire.

As of Sunday morning, The Town of High Level has welcomed about 100 evacuees from Chateh, with more expected in the coming days. The residents of Chateh are staying in the gymnasium as Spirit of the North Community School.

The Dene Tha First Nation is working on alternate accommodations for displaced Chateh residents in High Level and it is expected they will be moving out of the school.

A fire ban and Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction is in effect in the Town of High Level and in the High Level Forest Area due to continuing hot, dry, conditions.

Alberta Wildfire has upgraded the wildfire danger to “Extreme” in the High Level Forest Area.

Please monitor official channels, such as the Town of High Level social media pages or Alberta Wildfire website, for updates.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by wildfires at this time.
