Town of High Level Council has approved a plan to move the residential waste removal program to Curbside Waste Cart pickup.
As part of the program, each residential property will be provided with a black and a green 64-gallon cart for waste removal. The carts are designed to work with upgrades made to the waste disposal trucks used by the Town’s waste management contractor.
The carts will be provided free to residential properties and will replace any current method of waste storage used by residents. They are self-contained with an attached lid, wheels, and handles, and are designed for ease of use.
All waste will need to fit inside the carts and the carts will need to be placed in a specific way near the curb in order for the waste disposal truck’s new automated system to access them. The Town will share more details on the specifics of how the carts need to be used as we move closer to the implementation date.
In order to keep track of the carts, they will be individually marked with serial numbers and contain a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag assigning them to a specific address.
This type of curbside waste removal is common in communities across the country, and has been found to be an effective and efficient way to manage residential waste.
At their July 10, 2023, Regular Meeting, Council passed a motion to approve two 64-gallon wheeled carts for residential garbage pickup – one black and one green at a cost of $220,000 from General Reserves.
The Town of High Level will provide more information on these changes in the coming weeks.
